This carved palm root butterfly features striking natural patterning in contrasting shades of creamy beige, warm brown, charcoal, and deep black. Polished to a smooth finish, the stone reveals the intricate organic structures of ancient palm material, creating swirling, feathered, and cellular patterns across the wings.
Palm root stone forms from ancient palm material that has been buried and gradually mineralized over time. As silica and other minerals replace the original organic material, portions of the palm's internal structure can be preserved in stone. The resulting patterns vary considerably from piece to piece, reflecting the natural structure of the original plant as well as the minerals present during fossilization.
