More about Carnelian: These banded carnelian eggs reveal the quiet architecture of silica-rich fluids moving through stone over immense spans of time. Each piece began as layers of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) deposited along the walls of cavities within volcanic or sedimentary rock. As mineral-rich solutions continued to circulate, they left behind banding, color variation, and—in some pieces—open pockets lined with fine druzy crystal growth.
The warm reds, oranges, and creams seen in carnelian come from trace amounts of iron within the silica. Over time, subtle changes in chemistry and temperature produced the banded patterns visible on the polished exterior. Where conditions allowed space for continued crystal growth, druzy formed along the interior surfaces, creating natural crystal-lined cavities rather than solid stone throughout.
Each egg is polished on the outside to highlight its banding while leaving the interior druzy exposed. No two pieces are alike—variations in banding, cavity size, crystal texture, and color are natural and expected.
