This carved fossil coral butterfly displays beautifully preserved coral patterns in soft shades of cream, sand, pale gray, and honey beige. Polished to a smooth finish, the surface reveals the natural cellular structure of ancient coral colonies, with each fossilized coral head appearing like delicate flower or snowflake-like formations across the wings.
This piece also features small natural druzy pockets along the edge of one wing, where tiny quartz crystals formed within open spaces in the fossil during mineralization. These crystalline areas add texture and contrast against the otherwise satin-polished surface.
Fossil coral forms when ancient coral colonies are gradually replaced with minerals over millions of years, preserving the original skeletal structure of the coral in stone. The intricate patterns visible throughout this carving are the fossilized remains of prehistoric marine organisms that once lived in shallow tropical seas.
